Space Station 19 Million Toilet Courtesy Of Nasa

NASA have unveiled a new toilet designed specifically for the International Space Station. The toilet has an estimated cost of $19 million, but what could possibly push the price of a toilet up to this price range?

The toilet has been purchased from Russian aerospace firm RCS Energia. The reasons for the price include the facilitation of recycling urine as pure drinking water. The process is rather simple. The urine is passed via a U.S. made filtering system which separates small particles and molecules (water) from larger molecules (waste). The waste is stored in a separate container and disposed of back on Earth.

Still, at $19 million, the price seems rather extreme. I wonder how the astronauts reacted?

The invention is quite amazing but I think its disgusting to think of drinking ones urine although you'll say its purified but still the fact that its perceived to came out from urine....its still disgusting for me.
